The First Year Counselors, or FroCos, all of them Saybrook seniors, play a special role in the college. Together with the Dean, they counsel and advise first-year students, living with them on Old Campus and providing them with academic and personal counseling during the first year. In addition to bringing an important peer perspective to their roles, the FroCos receive special training to help students adapt to college life.
Seth (he/him) grew up in a small town in western Tennessee. He is an economics major, and he especially enjoys learning more about game theory and macroeconomics. On campus, he is the President of the Saybrook College Council and involved in the Saybrook Historical Society, New Haven REACH, Yale Model UN, and is a teaching assistant at the Yale School of Management. He enjoys drinking tea (particularly sweet tea), yapping, reading, traveling, and watching Avatar: The Last Airbender. He is very excited to meet the Class of 2030!
Joshua (He/Him) is from Guilford CT (just 20 minutes from campus)! He is studying Mechanical Engineering with a focus on medical devices as a hopeful physician engineer. At Yale, he loves playing his clarinet with a variety of on-campus groups, including the Yale Wind Ensemble, Berkeley College Orchestra, and Yale Undergraduate Chamber Orchestra. He’s also been involved with the Yale Partners in Health Chapter, HAVEN Free Clinic, Yale Students for Christ, and Yale Splash. He’s been a peer tutor for several classes and helped lead Saybrook IM’s last year with Young In. Outside of class, he enjoys travelling, hiking, running, biking, playing so
Samuel (he/him) is a Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology major who grew up in Laramie, Wyoming. When he’s not working on research and volunteering in the Neighborhood Health Project, Samuel is playing viola, working on art and music production for Amoriem Labs (Yale’s video game development club) and playing tennis with friends. In the future he hopes to practice medicine in rural communities like the one he grew up in and still have enough time to take up gardening. He’s excited to support the incoming class of 2030 in their Yale journey!
Richard (he/him) was born in Canada and currently lives in Italy. He is double majoring in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology and Classics, and is excited to (strongly) encourage all of his frosh to take introductory Latin.
Young In (he/him) is a local New Havener, growing up only about 10 minutes from campus. His major is Environmental Studies (B.S.), with certificates in Education Studies and Energy Studies. He’s interested in the intersection of environmental justice and sustainable development policy. At Yale, he is involved with Splash at Yale, the Peabody Museum, Saybrook intramurals, and plays cello in the Berkeley College Orchestra and various chamber ensembles. Eshi (she/her) is from sunny San Diego, California. She is majoring in Neuroscience on the pre-med track and is especially interested in sleep neuroscience and musculoskeletal disorders. At Yale, she has worked as a STEM Tour Guide, a professional cook at the Buttery (the Squiche!), and as an EMT. She is also involved in both cardiology and sleep research labs! Outside the classroom, Eshi is heavily involved in intramural sports and can usually be found at PWG, where she occasionally dabbles in powerlifting. Afnan (she/her) is from the rural but mighty Frederick, Maryland. At Yale, she studies Economics and Global Affairs and has invested her time in communities such as the Yale Muslim Students Association (MSA), Ethiopian Eritrean Students Association (EESA), Black Gen Capital (BGC), IRIS, and more. When she’s not studying or leading a club, Afnan loves exploring New Haven’s restaurants in search of the best fries and watching F1 races. She loves having discussion about everything ranging from shopping and volleyball to music and emerging markets! She’s excited to be a FROCO and can’t wait to meet the Class of 2030!
Samantha (she/her) is from Glastonbury, Connecticut. She is studying Engineering Sciences (Mechanical) and pursuing a certificate in Russian. She also participates in Yale’s Air Force ROTC program. She is passionate about leadership and building community. At Yale, she has served as the President of the Peace and Dialogue Leadership Initiative and is a proud member of the Independent Party of the Yale Political Union. In her free time, she enjoys playing chess, flying small planes, and watching Survivor.
Devin (he/him) grew up in the borough of Queens in New York City. He is majoring in Global Affairs with a certificate in Education Studies. At Yale, he has been involved with the Yale Prison Education Initiative (YPEI) and has taught Chinese at a New Haven high school with the Yale-China Association. Devin loves to try new restaurants and travel the world whenever he has the chance. Talk to him about any sport or video game, his favorite movies, or ask him any random question—he’s always in the mood for a good laugh and debate.
